Wearing the Mask in Public
this is one of a few short videos I took of Joanna wearing the mask I made for our Friday exhibitions. I thought it was intriguing to see how someone with their sight taken away by covering the eyes with a mask could manage in public. As it is normally the mask that covers the face but the wearer can still see, it was different to see how someone can become essentially faceless, to lose not only their identity, but their sense of control. I like how it is also very raw footage, giving a sense of 'normality' to something which is rather bizarre. It also loosely reminded me of Jill Magid's 'Evidence Locker' and 'Trust' whereby she is guided through the city using surveillance cameras and CCTV.
